The Iris Collection

The term iridescent stems from the name Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow. In this collection I explored translucent iridescence thematically and technically as a subject. Iridescence is an ever-changing spectrum of colour determined by glimpses of light and dark. The way it reflects light and colour is sporadic, ever changing and unpredictable like life and its uncertainty. I chose deflated balloons as my subject as they reflect how I feel - often exhausted by reality and the challenges life throws my way, and desperately holding on to whatever reserves I have to stay afloat for the people that depend on me. The crinkles and folds in the deflated balloon reflect the struggle and hardship and how it defines you and makes you the person that you are. Translucence thematically is tied to authenticity in your own story and iridescence is how beautifully we shine when we live proudly with that truth and how it defines us.
